SINOPIA Nominated for Fund Provider of the Year / March 2003 - Global Fund News has nominated Sinopia Asset Management for its prestigious Fund Provider of the Year award.CEO Philippe Goimard is credited with putting inflation-linked bond funds on the map in France through Sinopia's Oblig Inflation fund. The relaunched fund raised EUR 400 million in 2002. Sinopia's argument for creating it at a time when competitors were staying clear of inflation-linked funds was that it would provide diversification within a traditional bond portfolio. The strategy paid off and investors galvinated towards a conservative product such as this amidst the economic uncertainty. Sinopia's success is grounded in its strength in quantitative research. New parent HSBC Group - which acquired Sinopia's original owner Credit Commercial de France in 2000 - recognised this strength following the bond fund's success and handed Sinopia EUR 1.4 billion for management in structured and guaranteed products.
